OPS v Rotorua Camera Club
Inter Club Competition 2020
This year's competition was judged by three members of Enskede Fotoklubb in Stockholm, Sweden, who provided this introduction:
Your competition has been judged by three members of Enskede Fotoklubb in Stockholm, Sweden: Lena Weiland, Kazi Ushioda and Göran Zebühr. The club is often asked to judge other club’s images and we prefer to do the judging in a small group compared to do it just one person. You have to explain, first to yourself, and then to the other judges what you see in an image. Then you will listen to the other judges and most probably you will change your initial impression. Judging other photographer’s images is an excellent opportunity to improve the skill of seeing.
When examining the images, we have looked for a few key factors:
• The impact of the images – does it hit me?
• The transition from original capture to final image. Has unnecessary elements been cropped away, has the balance between highlight and shadows been handled with care, and so on.
• The composition - is it strong and emphasize the image?
• Is there a story in the image and am I invited to make my own interpretation?
The images that answers YES to all these questions will have a higher mark than images with just a few Yes-answers.
We’ve spent a couple of very interesting hours with your images and this is the result.
May the best club win and congratulations to the winner!
The results were announced on Tuesday 15th September 2020 in Orpington.
